The first volume of the SURE Solutions Publication Series focuses on the theme: Transdisciplinary Challenges in Sustainable Development of Urban Regions. Contributions in this volume explore the premises on which project concepts are created, how multinational partnerships are successfully established, and the specific challenges addressed.
SURE Solutions
SURE Solutions s a diamond open-access publication series, published by HafenCity University Hamburg, dedicated to transdisciplinary and transformational research on sustainable urban and regional development. The series provides a curated platform for application-oriented research, reflective practice, and knowledge exchange at the interface of science, policy, planning, civil society, and local implementation. The publication series aims to deepen the understanding of how sustainable development of urban regions is interpreted, negotiated, and put into practice in diverse local contexts around the world. Emerging from the BMFTR funding initiative Sustainable Development of Urban Regions (SURE), the series retains a particular connection to fast growing urban regions in Southeast Asia and China while also opening a broader international dialogue on sustainable urban transformation but welcomes contributions from across the world.
SURE Solutions provides an opportunity to disseminate findings, methods, tools, experiences, and results from applied scientific work and implementation-oriented practice. It showcases past and ongoing activities that explore new concepts, methods, partnerships, and forms of action for sustainable urban development. By bridging research and practice, the series seeks to strengthen the link between scientific knowledge and local stakeholders, including public administrations, communities, civil-society organisations, planning professionals, policymakers, and implementation partners.
The publication series is issued in English. To support accessibility across geographical, cultural, and linguistic contexts, contributions may include brief summaries in the local language(s) of the context in which the work takes place. Published as a hybrid print and online medium, SURE Solutions is embedded in the SURE funding initiative and supported by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. It serves as both a publication outlet and a communication medium for sharing actionable knowledge, situated experiences, and transferable insights for sustainable urban futures.
